What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are thin, removable trays custom-made from a digital scan of your teeth. You wear each set for about one to two weeks, and each set moves your teeth a small, planned step closer to their final position. Because the aligners are clear and removable, most people will not notice you are wearing them, and you take them out to eat, brush and floss.
Invisalign is one brand of clear aligner, made by Align Technology from its SmartTrack material. It is the system Dr. Wright uses and the one he has the most experience with. When East Cobb patients search for “clear aligners,” Invisalign is usually what they are looking for.
Why Your Invisalign Provider Matters
Aligners do not straighten teeth on their own. The result depends on the treatment plan: which teeth move, in what order and how far. That plan is written by your doctor. Dr. Wright is an orthodontic specialist with more than 20 years of experience, and he personally designs and monitors every aligner plan in our practice. His Diamond Plus Invisalign status reflects a high volume of Invisalign cases treated.
Invisalign vs. Braces: An Honest Comparison
| Question | Invisalign clear aligners | Braces |
|---|---|---|
| How visible is it? | Nearly invisible | Visible, though ceramic brackets blend in |
| Removable? | Yes, for meals and cleaning | No, fixed until treatment ends |
| Food restrictions? | None, because you remove the aligners to eat | Avoid hard, sticky and chewy foods |
| Who does the work? | You, by wearing aligners 20 to 22 hours a day | The braces, all day and night |
| Best fit | Motivated teens and adults, many crowding and spacing cases | Younger patients and more complex bite corrections |
Because we offer both, Dr. Wright will recommend whichever works best for your bite. If braces are the better tool, we will tell you.
What Invisalign Can Treat
Clear aligners are no longer only for small cosmetic touch-ups. In the right hands, Invisalign can treat a wide range of problems, including:
- Crowded teeth that overlap or twist
- Gaps and spacing between teeth
- Overbites, underbites and crossbites in many mild to moderate cases
- Teeth that shifted after earlier orthodontic treatment
Severe bite and jaw problems can still be better suited to braces, and Dr. Wright will tell you at the consultation which tool will get you the result you want.
Invisalign for East Cobb Teens
Invisalign can be a great fit for teens who are ready to take responsibility for wearing their aligners. Teen aligners include wear indicators so parents and our team can see whether the trays are being worn enough. Aligners come out for games, practices and performances, and there are no brackets to break before a big event. Learn more about Invisalign for teens.
Invisalign for East Cobb Adults
Many adults come to us because their teeth shifted after childhood braces, or because they never had treatment and are tired of hiding their smile. Aligners let you straighten your teeth without changing how you look at work or in photos. See Invisalign for adults.
How Invisalign Treatment Works
- Free consultation and 3D scan. We scan your teeth digitally and Dr. Wright evaluates whether aligners are right for your case.
- Your treatment plan. Dr. Wright maps each stage of tooth movement and shows you a preview of the expected result.
- Wearing your aligners. You switch to a new set about every one to two weeks and wear them 20 to 22 hours a day.
- Progress checks. You visit us about every 6 to 8 weeks so we can make sure the teeth are tracking.
- Retainers. When treatment is complete, retainers keep your smile in place.
Caring for Your Aligners
- Wear them 20 to 22 hours a day. Aligners only move teeth while they are in your mouth.
- Drink only water with aligners in. Coffee, tea, soda and sports drinks can stain the trays and trap sugar against your teeth.
- Brush before you put them back in after meals, so food is not held against the teeth.
- Rinse and gently clean the aligners each day, and never use hot water, which can warp them.
- Keep them in their case whenever they are out. Most lost aligners end up wrapped in a napkin on a lunch tray.

Clear Aligner FAQs for East Cobb Patients
Is Invisalign the same as clear aligners?
Invisalign is one brand of clear aligner. All clear aligners use removable trays to move teeth. Invisalign is the system Dr. Wright uses.
How long does Invisalign take?
It depends on how much the teeth need to move. Dr. Wright gives you a timeline based on your own treatment plan at the consultation.
Can I eat with aligners in?
No. Take them out to eat or drink anything except water, then brush before putting them back in.
Does Invisalign hurt?
You may feel pressure for a day or two when you switch to a new set. That is a sign the aligners are working, and it fades quickly.
Am I a candidate?
Many teens and adults with crowding, spacing and mild to moderate bite problems are. A scan and exam at your free consultation will tell you for sure.
