Braces for East Cobb Kids, Teens and Adults
Most of our East Cobb braces patients are between about 10 and 15, when the permanent teeth have come in and the jaws are still growing. That timing lets braces straighten the teeth and guide the bite at the same time. Adults are welcome too. More adults choose braces every year, especially tooth-colored ceramic brackets or LightForce braces that are smaller and more precise than older systems.
What Braces Can Correct
- Crowding, when there is not enough room for the teeth to line up
- Spacing and gaps between teeth
- Overbite and overjet, where the upper front teeth sit too far ahead of the lowers
- Underbite, where the lower teeth sit in front of the uppers
- Crossbite, where some upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth
- Open bite, where the front teeth do not meet when you bite down
Left alone, many of these problems make teeth harder to clean, wear enamel unevenly and strain the jaw. Braces fix both the look and the function.
Types of Braces We Offer
Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most durable option and handle the widest range of cases. Today’s brackets are much smaller and more comfortable than the braces many parents remember, and kids can personalize them with colored bands.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces work the same way as metal braces, but the brackets are tooth-colored, so they blend in. They are a favorite with adults and older teens who want a less noticeable option but still need the control of fixed braces.
LightForce Braces
LightForce braces use brackets that are 3D-printed and custom-designed for each tooth from a digital scan. Because every bracket is built for the tooth it sits on, the treatment plan is programmed into the brackets from the start. The brackets are low-profile and made from a clear ceramic material, so they are discreet as well.
How Braces Treatment Works
- Free consultation. We take a digital scan and imaging, and Dr. Wright explains what he sees and which type of braces fits your case.
- Placement visit. Brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected with a wire. The visit is painless, though the teeth may feel sore for a few days.
- Adjustment visits. You return about every few weeks so we can change wires and check progress. These visits are short and easy to schedule around school.
- Retainers. When the braces come off, we fit retainers to hold your new smile in place.
Braces or Invisalign?
Both work well, and Dr. Wright offers both, so the recommendation depends on your bite, not on what we sell. Braces are fixed in place, so they work around the clock without depending on the patient to wear them, which is why they are often the better choice for younger teens and more complex bite corrections. Invisalign clear aligners are removable and nearly invisible, and they suit patients who will wear them 20 to 22 hours a day. At your consultation you will hear honestly which option makes sense for you.
Living With Braces in East Cobb
East Cobb kids are busy, and braces should not slow them down. A few tips from our team:
- Sports: Wear a mouthguard for contact sports. Ask us which type fits over braces.
- Band and chorus: Most wind instrument players adjust within a couple of weeks. Orthodontic wax helps in the meantime.
- Food: Skip hard, sticky and chewy foods such as popcorn kernels, hard candy, caramel and ice, which can break brackets.
- Cleaning: Brush after meals and use floss threaders or a water flosser to keep the gums healthy.
- Problems: If a bracket or wire comes loose, call or text us and we will get it fixed.

Braces FAQs for East Cobb Families
What is the best age for braces?
Most kids start between about 10 and 15, but we recommend a first check by age 7 so we can time treatment well. Adults can get braces at any age.
How long will I wear braces?
Many cases take somewhere between one and two years, depending on how much correction is needed. Dr. Wright gives you your own estimate at the consultation.
Do braces hurt?
Getting braces placed does not hurt. Teeth usually feel tender for a few days after placement and after some adjustments, and over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods help.
Are ceramic braces as effective as metal?
Yes, for most cases. Ceramic brackets move teeth the same way metal brackets do. They are slightly larger and need a little more care to avoid staining.
